The Somers Point School District of approximately 1000 students (Preschool through 8th grade) consists of three schools. The Jordan Road School, constructed in 1966 with an addition in 1991, is a Kindergarten through 8th grade building which houses approximately 545 students. Dawes Avenue School was recently constructed in 1998 and sits on the other side of town and houses Preschool through 6th grade, approximately 375 students. The third school is the New York Avenue School, constructed in 1914 with an addition in 1922 and refurbished in 2005. The New York Avenue School houses five full-day Preschool classes, with approximately 80 students. The school also houses the Central Office, Business Office, Child Study Team Office and the Community Education Recreation Office.
The district is noted for its diverse population that excels not only academically but also in school related activities including sports, the arts, and service organizations. The district has been fortunate to have an active Education Foundation that has funded technology programs, mini-grants and the annual Stokes Trip, investing approximately $250,000 to our schools over the past ten years.
