It's All About Pre-K Welcome to Pre-K!  I hope this answers any questions you have about my class procedures, materials, etc.  If you have a concern that is not addressed here, please let me know!

    Drop Off/Pick Up


    School begins at 8:55, and dismissal is at 2:00.  In the morning, please wait outside the building until the main entrance is unlocked.  At that time you may enter and come upstairs to our classroom.  Please wait in the hall until I open the classroom door I will be busy getting things ready for our day!  I ask that you say goodbye at the classroom door so that we can get started right away with learning and having fun, this makes for a much smoother transition!  At the end of the day, pick up will be at the bottom of the steps in front of the main entrance to New York Avenue, we will dismiss from the main doors.

    I will ask the children to remain inside with me until I see you or the person you have designated to pick up your child, at which time I will dismiss them one by one.  Street parking for drop off and dismissal is located on New York Avenue and First Street.  If your child is late to school, you must sign in at the Office.  If you need to pick up your child from school prior to dismissal, please visit the Office to sign out.


     Before and After Care

    Before and after school care is available through the Community Education and Recreation Office, located on the main floor of our school.  The S.M.I.L.E. and C.A.S.T.L.E. are available before school from 7:00am and after school until 6:00pm.  If you need to drop off your child at school before 8:55 or are not able to pick them up until after 2:00, please stop by this office for information about how to register for this program.  The CER Office also offers many other community and enrichment activities throughout the year, and information will be sent home with your child throughout the year.

    Pre-K Folder

    Each child has a Pre-K Folder.  Please make sure your child brings it to school each day in their backpack.  This folder will be used to carry important papers between school and home.  Any notes for me, completed forms, etc. should be put in the folder, and I will put any classwork, notes for you, school information, etc. in the folder as well.  You will see a white crate by the classroom door please put your child’s folder there each morning when you drop them off.  Folders will be checked each day and sent home.  Please check the folder each night for important papers and your child’s school work.



    You may either send a lunch for your child in a lunchbox, or have them purchase lunch at school.  Refrigeration is not available for lunches, and we request that you not send in anything that needs to be heated we eat lunch in our classroom and do not have the means to heat or refrigerate food.  Please check the lunch calendar for the daily menu and prices.  Any payment required should be sent in an envelope with your child’s name.   Free and reduced price meal forms will be sent home in folders should you wish to apply.  As the children enter the classroom in the morning I will check to see if they have brought a lunch from home or are eating a school lunch.


    Breakfast is also available to those students whose parents wish them to eat at school.  Please complete the form in your child’s folder to let us know if you would like your child to eat breakfast at school or if they will be eating at home.  Again, any payment required should be sent in an envelope with your child’s name.  Free and reduced price meal forms also apply for breakfast.  Again, I will ask the children first thing in the morning if they will be eating breakfast at school.


    We will share a snack each afternoon.  I ask for you to provide one class snack per month. Please be sure to send in enough for 15 students and please be sure it is a healthy treat. Some ideas: fruit, yogurt, pudding, popcorn, cereal, pretzels, granola bars, crackers, goldfish, etc.   



    Please send your child to school with a backpack each day, large enough to neatly hold their Pre-K Folder.

    Change of Clothes

    Please send in a change of clothes for your child to be kept in school in case of any messy mishaps.  Should your child need to change, we will send the soiled clothes home for washing.  Please return clean clothes on the next school day so we’re prepared for any future mishaps.


    Rest Time

    We will rest each afternoon.  Each child will be provided with cushioned mat.  Please send in a child sized pillow and blanket that your child may keep in their cubby to use each day.  One small stuffed animal is also allowed, and that may be kept in their cubby as well.  Please do not send in your child’s very favorite, irreplaceable stuffed animal or blanket that they just can’t live without as hard as we try to keep track of everyones personal belongings, sometimes things get misplaced or put in the wrong cubby, especially at the beginning of the year when we are just getting to know the children and learning what belongs to who!  We promise to do our best, but to be on the safe side, keep those special can’t-go-to-sleep-without-it blankets and stuffies at home and send a substitute to school. 


    No school supplies are required other than a backpack.  If you would like to donate classroom supplies, we can always use baby wipes, rolls of paper towels, and gallon jugs of water for snack.  During the year I may ask for other items for specific projects.
